Board of Directors Results from Chapter 312

Chapter 312 (Northridge) President Claudia Garcia has scanned, OCR'd*, and formatted into Word documents a number of the committee reports and other handouts from last weekend's CSUEU Board of Directors meeting. She's sprinkled her site with photos taken by Natalia Bremer from Chapter 305 (San Francisco). If you couldn't make the meeting last weekend, this is almost as good as being there (or at least more efficient):

*OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. OCR software takes an image of a document and "reads" it to convert it into text. The text can then be used to create a Word document, as Claudia did here, or a web page, as we usually do. The conversion process usually looks something like this:

  1. Print out document (if you received it as an image PDF instead of hard copy)
  2. Scan document
  3. Run scanned image through OCR software
  4. Import OCR results into the editing tool of your choice (Word, etc.)
  5. Proofread for errors in the OCR process (OCR software has improved in the last 10 years, but a human still needs to check the result)
  6. Edit the document for formatting (add things like bold and italics in Word, or do XHTML and style sheet markup for a web page)
Claudia has done a lot of work in making these documents available to members. Go, Claudia!
