Employee Salary Data Online: CSUEU Statement

CSUEU Chief of Staff Philip Coonley sent this out yesterday afternoon:

To All CSUEU Activists and Staff:

Employee Salary Data Online

The Sacramento Bee has obtained salary data for state employees and placed it online, searchable by the public. Data returned includes name with middle initial, classification, agency or university campus, and base pay. CSU employees are in this database.

Pay for state employees is public information. Local 2579, the CSEA affiliate which represents California State University employees, recommends that members who are concerned about this new database contact Bee editor Melanie Sill at (916) 321-1002 or, and Public Editor Armando Acuna at (916) 321-1250 or; Ms. Sill is the top editor at the Bee and Acuna handles their reader complaints.

While we would prefer not to have our members' pay information published in the Bee, it is public information, and if someone were to review it carefully, they would see the kind of pay disparities we have been pointing to for years.

Phillip Coonley, Chief of Staff
California State University Employees Union (CSUEU)
Readers are always welcome to forward Unit 9 News items to their colleagues, chapter mailing lists, etc. We are delighted to have the information used; that is after all why we publish.
